The inhabitants of Jarallah, a village in the Nineveh plains of northern Iraq not far from the Kurdish Region, did not leave their homes immediately when ISIS fighters took control of it on August 8th, 2014, during a military campaign that ended with the declaration of an independent Islamic Caliphate over a large territory in Iraq and Syria.
